Cumberland Family Tree positions itself as a program to create a Family History Book with specialized Story reports. They have made good use of the narrative function found in most software. You’ll soon learn to enter your facts to generate a better narrative. However, don’t expect creative flourishes, nothing can replace a family member’s narrative.

Feature Set:
Cumberland Family Tree meets the standards for genealogical research. Data entry is easy, but watch those slashes—they’re necessary for the generated narrative—and Cumberland does not reformat your data like higher ranked products. You can source your entries and rank your confidence in each from zero to three. You’re on your own when it comes to outside research.Standard reports and charts can be printed with limited customization options.
Ease of Use:
The average researcher will find this program more difficult to use than some of the higher ranked programs.

Cumberland Family Tree has positioned itself well to genealogist’s looking for an easy way to make a Family History Book. There’s no fast track to the bestseller list—Cumberland’s narrative function is just like the ones in other programs. With its limited features, look to other options to make your research easier and your documentation more appealing.
